WHAT
ArtServe Michigan Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture is a statewide event that showcases and celebrates Michigan artists, arts in education, arts organizations, civic leaders in the arts and business support of the arts. Winners are selected in 7 categories – International Achievement, Arts in Education, Michigan Artist, Emerging Artist, Business Honor Roll, Cultural Organization, and Civic Leader. A selection committee composed of citizens from throughout the state chooses the winners.

HISTORY
Since its beginning in 1985, the Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture have recognized individuals and organizations that have been vital to the growth and development of Michigan's cultural resources. The ArtServe Michigan Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture evolved from the Concerned Citizens for the Arts in Michigan Governor's Arts Awards.  Concerned Citizens for the Arts in Michigan was a non-profit arts advocacy organization, which merged with three other arts organizations (Arts Foundation of Michigan, Business Volunteers for the Arts and Michigan Alliance for Arts Education) to form ArtServe Michigan.

TODAY
The primary mission of ArtServe Michigan Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture is to increase public awareness of the economic, educational and cultural value of the arts statewide. Over 600 artists, legislators, business leaders, arts managers, board members and patrons from every corner state attend the event. The award presentations are presided over by, Barbara Kratchman, the President of ArtServe Michigan. A highlight of the evening is a special 'Governor's Reception' involving Governor Jennifer Granholm.
