Featuring the 2004 ArtServe Michigan Governor’s Arts Awards International Achievement Award Winners

ArtServe Michigan, College for Creative Studies, Michigan Art Education Association, Michigan Department of Education, Michigan Music Educators Association, Michigan Opera Theatre, Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, Michigan School Vocal Music Association and Wayne State University invite students, parents and educators to the third annual free ArtServe Michigan Governor’s Awards for Arts & Culture Student Event on Friday, November 19, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Michigan Opera Theatre. Listen as the techno music wizardry of Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson “The Belleville Three” comes alive.

Three of the most amazing men to create music in Detroit, these legendary masters of techno music will penetrate your soul with the expressive force and versatility of techno music. The music of Juan, Derrick and Kevin – nurtured with elements of funk, rock, and soul – defies classification. Hailed for their concerts of “where the sounds and streets of Detroit become real”…where machinery and factories speak out through their art…the Belleville Three intersects the unimaginable boundaries of music, art and technology.

The student event is a project of ArtServe Michigan. The event generally attracts more than 700 students who are able to experience first-hand the work of some of Michigan’s most prominent artists.

Drawing on Film
Music and Animation
Limited to 22 high school juniors or seniors per workshop. Students can pick only one workshop. Prior registration must be completed through MAEA.

At Wayne State University:

Teacher Workshop –
Limited to 24 Teachers

Student Workshops:
Studio Dubbing and Recording
Sound Creation for Synthesis and Sampling
Music Scoring

Limited to 45 high school juniors or seniors. Three rotating workshops will be offered.

Prior registration must be completed through either MSBOA or MSVMA.

12:50 – 1:00                  Travel from Michigan Opera Theatre to College for Creative Studies or Wayne State University

1:10 – 3:30                    Interactive workshops take place at College for Creative Studies and Wayne State University
