Foote Hospital Public Art - 2005 Call for Artists
Deadline: April 15, 2005
As part of their commitment to local artists and the cultural community, the W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital has entered into a partnership with The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Jackson County (ACAJC) and Ella Sharp Museum to showcase two- and three-dimensional art in the hospital lobby area. This partnership not only helps to nurture the arts community within Foote's service area, but also provides a healing environment for the hospital's patients, family members, and staff. The Foote Art Partnership features temporary one-year installations of already existing original pieces of artwork created by artists from Foote's service area including the following counties: Calhoun, Eaton, Jackson, Lenawee, Hillsdale, Ingham, & Washtenaw.

Artwork temporarily installed in Foote Hospital is available for sale and marketed as such by Foote Hospital and the ACAJC. If the artwork is sold it must remain installed for the full one-year period. There will be a 25% commission taken on artwork sold during the exhibition. The artist is responsible for transportation of the artwork to and from the installation site. There may be some reimbursement of expenses incurred with the transportation of larger pieces of sculpture. Foote Hospital handles all insurance associated with the artwork installed as a result of this partnership. As part of their commitment to the project and to the local artists who are temporarily loaning their works for the good of the community, Foote Hospital offers a purchase award for one of the two-dimensional works on display. The hospital will purchase the selected work for inclusion in their permanent collection. The 2005-6 exhibition runs from May 9, 2005 to May 9, 2006. University of Michigan Health System's Gifts of Art program:
Annual Call for Slides

Gifts of Art is an arts enrichment program for patients, visitors and staff of the University of Michigan Hospitals. Our nine galleries display over 47 exhibits a year. They include 2D and 3D spaces that are viewed by approximately 10,000 people a day, or about 3.4 million people a year. This makes our galleries some of the most widely visited indoor, non-museum exhibit spaces in the state. The exhibits are intended to assist and enhance the healing process, and reduce the stress and anxiety often associated with a healthcare setting. Besides being an excellent opportunity for artists to show in a highly visible environment, Gifts of Art exhibits are greatly appreciated by our special hospital audiences.
Please visit our website www.med.umich.edu/goa for more information and entry form.  Please email GOA@med.umich.edu or call 734-936-ARTS with questions.

JourneyWorks Gallery Call For Entry
Deadline: Ongoing

JourneyWorks began in the fall of 2002 as a way to showcase local, regional and international art. Believing that the arts provide a glimpse of our collective and individual experience, JourneyWorks serves to lessen the schism that separates sacred and secular. In art, we are offered a glimpse of the divinity that rests within each of us--a common thread of humanity. In art, we are able to find the changing shape of a life lived with intention. In art, we find a journey that exists alongside our own. The gallery, located within St. John's Lutheran Church, is currently seeking to fill its 2005 schedule. Exhibits rotate on a monthly basis. Works may be priced for sale, with a 10% commission going to JourneyWorks to support future exhibits.

Crooked Tree Arts Center, Petosky
Glaze Texture and Surface Decoration by Brian Gartside
June 15-June 17 2005

Brian Gartside will teach participants how to easily achieve color and texture on any ceramic surface. He will explain a simple and economical method for developing interesting surface treatments for any firing method. This method is relaxed, loosely approximate and celebrates the "glaze flaws" that many potters fret over. Brian's enthusiasm for this textural glaze revolution is infectious and will inspire anyone looking for new ways to invigorate the surface of their work.

On the first day, participants will help mix hundreds of glaze and texture samples that will be fired overnight for review the next day. Brian will then proceed to talk about and demonstrate his approach to surface design, images and decoration. He creates fascinatingly complex abstract designs inspired by elements of landscape. He will present slides of his influences and work, while demonstrating his approach to building up surface decoration utilizing the same materials that participants have tested.
