ARTSERVE MICHIGAN'S PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL
GOVERNOR'S AWARDS
INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER
SOUTHFIELD, MI, September 14, 2004
- ArtServe Michigan's President Barbara Kratchman today announced that Juan
Atkins will receive the 2004 ArtServe Michigan Governor's Awards International Achievement Award
along with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. Derrick, Kevin and Juan
are receiving the award because of their achievements in techno music.
The trio will receive the prestigious
award along with 8 other award recipients on Thursday, November 18 at The
Henry Ford in Dearborn. The other awards categories and recipients are:
§ Cultural Organization - Blissfest Music
Organization, City of Marquette Arts & Culture Department and the Grand
Rapids Ballet Company
§ Michigan Artist - Michael Daugherty, composer
§ Emerging Artist - Liliana Rokita, singer/songwriter
§ Arts in Education - Dr. C. Robert Maxfield,
Superintendent of Farmington Public Schools
§ Civic Leader - Maxine and Stuart Frankel
§ Business Honor Roll - LaFontsee Galleries and
Underground Studio

ArtServe Michigan Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture is a state-wide
program that showcases and celebrates Michigan artists, arts organizations,
arts patrons and business support of the arts. Winners are selected in 7
categories - International Achievement, Arts in Education, Michigan Artist,
Emerging Artist, Business Honor Roll, Cultural Organization, and Civic
Leader. A selection committee made up of citizens from throughout the state
chooses the winners. The primary mission of the ArtServe Michigan Governor's
Awards for Arts & Culture is to increase public awareness of the
economic, educational and cultural value of the arts in our state. Over 700
artists, legislators, business leaders, arts managers, board members and
patrons from every corner of the state attend the event.
