Protecting Your Art: Contracts &
Copyright Basics
This crash course on contracts and copyright will give you the foundation
that you need to understand the principles of copyright and contracts law
and how they apply to artists in various disciplines. This will go through
rights of ownership in relationship to copyright law as well as
information about copyright registration for your work, as well as what to
look for in a contract, basic negotiations, and red flags that let you
know when you need an attorney.

ArtServe Artist Legal Clinics
ArtServe provides free Artist Legal
Clinics hosted at various organizations throughout Michigan. The ArtServe
Artist Legal Clinics offer private consultations with a volunteer lawyer
and is an opportunity for artists to get information on arts-related legal
issues. After an initial consultation with a volunteer lawyer, an artist
with a more in-depth legal issue will be pre-qualified using the VLA
guidelines and the case is placed with a volunteer lawyer.
