Sylvia Perle

DSWPS, the oldest women's art association in the USA, was founded by Lillian Burk Messer and Mary Chase P. Stratton in February, 1903, to promote creativity in the arts, and to encourage young women to pursue artistic careers by providing an annual scholarship.  Currently, there are 176 members in DSWPS.

DSWPS has been designated as a Heritage Organization by the Detroit 300 Partner Project. DSWPS encourages creative women to achieve their potential as well as offering an annual scholarship to a female college student who is pursuing a career in the field of art.

  • Nov. 1, 2002-Jan.12, 2003,  Centennial Celebration of the 100th birthday of DSWPS Women's Heritage Hall of Fame. Lansing, MI  (517) 484-1880 Reception: Nov. 2, 2002, 2-4 p.m. 

  • March 1-31, 2003, Grosse Pte. Art Center, Corner Maryland and Jefferson Ave. Reception: March 1st., 2-5 p.m. 

  • July 1-31, 2002, Plymouth Community Center, Plymouth, Michigan, will sponsor an exhibit for the month.
  • Sept. 2-6, 2003, Joint Exhibit with Pewabic Pottery Detroit, MI 

  • Sept. 12-Oct. 2, 2003, Art Center of Mt. Clemens, MI.

  • April 2003, Field trip to Toledo to see the Van Gogh exhibit.
