Madame Cadillac Dance Theatre
Madame Cadillac Dance Theatre brings
to life the French Colonial period of Michigan history. They reenact the early French
explorers and settlers, and the music, costumes, and dance of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Harriet Berg, noted Michigan choreographer and director, is the artistic director of
the company, which she founded in 1981. The company tours throughout the Midwest,
performing for festivals, schools, and special events. Madame Cadillac Dance
Theatre presents performances, of court, and country dances of Nouvelle France, in
addition to the voyager songs and music unique to the lakes and rivers that were the
expressways of the new world. These multi-media programs provide background in French
language, geography, and history of the period. Programs range from a single speaker for
an interactive classroom presentation, to a full company of six dancers, with fiddle,
guitar, or baroque musicians on authentic instruments.

Madame Cadillac Dance Theatre
will perform in St. Nicolas de la Grave in Southwest France, the birthplace of Detroit's
founder, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe Cadillac. They will help celebrate, along with the entire village,
Detroit's 298th birthday on July 24th, 1999. If you are interested in joining this tour,
please call Harriet Berg at
(313) 875-6354. Members of the Madame Cadillac Dance Theatre performing in the
1999 season are Michael Burden, Jayme Caron, Gregg DeNike,
Anne Dwyer, Shrianna Glenn, Leslie Gregory, Eric Johnston, Ken Marko, Genot Picor, Patt
Shanks, Janine Stevenson, and Matt
Stockard. Guest artists accompanying the company on the tour
in France July 15-25, 1999 include Martin Berg, Claudine
Gueniot, Michelle Moensson, Amy Skimin, and Bruce Walker.
